Service Projects

God calls us to lend a helping hand to the community. At St. A's strive to incorporate servant leadership into our daily lives by working together to help others. The student service ministry welcomes new service project ideas! We would like to incorporate more service projects throughout the school year so that we can help others as God calls us to do each day.

In previous years we have participated in service projects like:

  • collecting food for the St. Vincent de Paul Society
  • cooking  dinner for the residents of St. Francis House
  • making Christmas Tree Angels to collect gifts for children who come from migrant farm worker families

Gator Plunge

Join us on Saturday, Sept. 18 from 8:30am-1:30 p.m for GATOR PLUNGE hosted by ACTIONS! & The Center for Leadership and Service.

Meet at the Plaza of the Americas and wear your Catholic Gators t-shirt if you have one!

Gator Plunge is a single-day service project where hundreds of volunteers will branch out into various areas of Gainesville to participate in exciting service projects. Service projects will include working with animals, art and culture, youth development, elder care, environmental issues, homelessness and housing, and much more. Students will be able to learn about service opportunities in Gainesville, meet new people and network with campus leaders, and experience their community first-hand. The event will also include a light breakfast.

Don't worry! Transportation to the actual event (wherever we're assigned) will be provided to those who don't have cars.

Register online here. You must register as an individual, but type that you are with the Catholic Gators group. After you register, please email arojas@ufl.edu to tell Angelica that you're joining us.

Blood Drive

Mark your calendars! Our next blood drive will be at Newman on Tuesday, October 5 to benefit LifeSouth Community Blood Centers.

Did you know that one blood donor can save three lives?

Catholic Gators Relay for Life Team

Do you know someone whose life has been affected by cancer? You can honor them and help other people going through it by joining the Catholic Gators Relay for Life team.

Relay for Life is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. With other student organizations, we spend the night in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center walking around the track, raising money, thinking of our family and friends, and having fun. In 2010, our team raised $1,220 and UF as a whole raised $87,833.18

Relay for Life 2011 is March 25-26!

We'll be getting the team together months in advance to fundraise and plan our campsite. If you have questions, please email captain Michelle Abou-Joude at ellehcim@ufl.edu.
"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me" -- Matthew 25: 35-36

Angelica Rojas is the service coordinator. If you feel passionate about a cause or feel called to help lead a specific project, e-mail her at arojas@ufl.edu.
